1 million eggs to be imported from 5 Indian farms by Sri Lanka to meet market demand. 

One million eggs will be imported by Sri Lanka from India to meet the market demand of its country. The crisis had hit the nation’s importing agency very badly.

The Sri Lankan country has been facing a huge economic crisis since last year. The purchasing power of the citizens has decreased due to high inflation rate, the livelihood of the country’s people has been affected due to the inflation and all the gains from the past developments have been reversed.

The struggle to normalize the economy which was hit by the crisis in the island nation is so critical after its announcement regarding the first debt default in the year 2022.

The island’s top exporting agency gave a statement that they are planning to import one million eggs from five chicken farms in India to meet the country’s requirements.

Asiri Valisundara, the Chairman of (STC) Sri Lanka State Trading Corporation gave a statement that, “Sri Lanka had imported 20 million eggs till now and half of those eggs were already let out in the market for sale purposes”.

He also said, The Animal Production Department gave the additional approval for three other chicken farms in India to purchase eggs, but initially the eggs were imported from only 2 Chicken farms of Indian country.

The eggs will be imported by SriLanka on the basis of the market demand. Three officials from State Trading Corporation and Animal Production Department had explored the poultry farms in India and gave approval to import eggs from 3 other chicken farms.

The Chairman added a statement that the eggs which was imported from Indian farms will be released to biscuit manufacturers, bakeries, restaurants and catering services at the rate of (Srilankan Currency)රු35 for each.
