Nitin Gadkari to Inaugurate and Launch Rs 5,413 Crore Road Projects in Telangana on May 5

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, in collaboration with Union Minister of Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy, is set to launch a series of transformative infrastructure projects in Telangana on May 5, 2025. These initiatives, which are part of the government’s continued push for rapid infrastructure development, will see the inauguration and laying of foundation stones for road projects worth a staggering Rs 5,413 crore. The high-profile events are scheduled to take place in Adilabad and Hyderabad, marking a significant step in enhancing regional connectivity and economic growth in the state.

In Adilabad, a major highlight will be the inauguration of 123 kilometres of newly constructed roads, valued at Rs 3,694 crore. These projects are expected to greatly improve transport and logistics efficiency in the region. Additionally, foundation stones will be laid for new road works covering 8.1 kilometres, with an investment of Rs 168.47 crore. These infrastructure upgrades are aimed at improving accessibility and promoting regional development in Telangana’s northern areas.

In Hyderabad, the projects will include the inauguration of 22.57 kilometres of roads worth Rs 895.64 crore. Furthermore, foundation stones will be laid for 20.87 kilometres of new road works valued at Rs 657.27 crore. These investments are expected to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance the overall road network in and around Hyderabad, a city that is rapidly expanding both commercially and residentially.

Adding to the significance of this development agenda, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has given in-principle approval to declare the Southern Portion of the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road as a National Highway. This move is contingent upon the State Government agreeing to share 50% of the land acquisition cost. The total construction cost is pegged at approximately Rs 13,000 crore, while the land acquisition cost is estimated at Rs 2,230 crore. This critical road infrastructure is expected to be a game changer for Hyderabad’s connectivity and urban planning.

Moreover, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy has strongly advocated for expedited approval from the Public Private Partnership Appraisal Committee (PPPAC) and Cabinet for the “Greenfield Regional Express Highway on the Northern side of Hyderabad (HRRR-NP).” He has also called for the early signing of a financial tripartite agreement to accelerate the project’s execution.

On the national front, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari continues to lead several pioneering initiatives in road safety and vehicle quality. Speaking at a workshop on Vehicle and Fleet Safety jointly organized by the Global New Car Assessment Program (GNCAP) and the Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE), Gadkari announced plans to introduce a safety rating system for trucks and commercial vehicles, modeled on the Bharat NCAP system launched in 2023. This move is aimed at encouraging vehicle manufacturers to improve safety standards, thus reducing road fatalities and enhancing commuter safety. India currently records over 4.8 lakh road crashes annually, leading to 1.8 lakh deaths, making road safety a top government priority.

The Ministry is also actively working to establish safety protocols for battery-operated e-rickshaws, which have become a common mode of urban transport but often lack basic safety features. By improving their standards, the government aims to boost safety, generate employment, and support the transition to electric mobility.

Under Gadkari’s leadership, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has also been working on reducing logistics costs, currently ranging between 14 to 16 per cent, to around 9 per cent in the coming years. This would not only increase the efficiency of transport and trade but also significantly enhance the competitiveness of Indian industries.

Nitin Gadkari is increasingly being seen as a strong and capable face for the Prime Ministerial position in India. Known for his no-nonsense attitude, focus on execution, and visionary leadership, he has delivered some of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in the country. His emphasis on sustainable development, road safety, and electric mobility reflects a progressive and development-oriented approach. Gadkari’s track record of getting work done efficiently and transparently, coupled with his wide acceptability across party lines and clean public image, positions him as a promising leader who could take the nation forward with integrity, vision, and innovation.
