On 15 August, India celebrated its 77th Independence Day with Prime Minister Narendra Modi unfurling the Indian flag at Delhi’s famous Red Fort and on this special day, political leaders from all sides of the spectrum expressed their wishes to citizens.
This day is celebrated in different ways by people all over the country. Some will also be taking a look at the celebrations on social media. Social media, particularly X (previously known as Twitter), is rife with celebrations including posting patriotic statements, paying tribute to those who lost their lives for the nation, and wishing others a “Happy Independence Day.”
On the occasion of Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted his people and paid tribute to those who had fought for freedom while reaffirming his firm commitment to their vision. “Best wishes on Independence Day. We’re paying tribute to our great freedom fighters and reaffirming our will to live up to their vision. Jai Hind!” the PM said on X.
On the occasion of India’s Independence Day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to the heroes of India’s freedom struggle and extended warm wishes to the country. “I am happy for all my countrymen to celebrate Independence Day,” said the Union Minister in Hindi on his Facebook page X, which is no longer Twitter. I’d like to salute all freedom fighters who have enabled us to be independent.” In the ‘Amrit Kaal’ golden era, he also called on citizens to play a role in promoting national unity and prosperity within their communities.
“Our duty to build the Golden India which our freedom fighters dreamed of is also reflected in this day, let’s solemnly promise to do everything in our power to support the nation’s unity and prosperity in this golden age”, the Union Home Minister concluded in his tweet.
On the occasion of the 77th Independence Day, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi extended his greetings to the people of the country and called Bharat Mata the voice of all Indians. “Bharat Mata is the voice of every Indian, Happy Independence Day to all of our countrymen,” the Congress leader said on social media platform X, which was once known as Twitter.
The Congressman also discussed his experience with the “Bharat Jodo Yatra,” stating that he began the 154-day journey at the sea’s edge and ended it in Kashmir’s gentle snow. “I’ve walked across land I call home for over a hundred and forty five days this past year.” I set out from the sea’s edge, going through heat, dust and rain. Until I reached the soft snow of my beloved Kashmir, through forests, towns, hills,” he said.
Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, tweeted “The chapters of our history are written in courage and resilience,” wishing all citizens a happy 77th Independence Day. We will pay tribute to the sacrifices of our freedom fighters as we lift a tricolor and vow to maintain the values they fought for.”
“Let the sacrifice of these two inspire us to carry out our duties with purpose and commitment.” In our journey to a brighter, better India, we must rise above divisions and live together as one.”
August 15 is celebrated as the day when India’s freedom came out of a centuries long British dictatorship, which has been achieved through sacrifice by countless courageous men and unwavering efforts on behalf of its heroes.
The theme of the Independence Day celebrations shall be chosen each year. The theme of this year’s celebration is “Nation First, Always First”, which is part of the overall umbrella celebration called “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”.
