China releases its new map claiming India’s Arunachal Pradesh

This Monday, China launched its new version of its flagship map formally: “The 2023 Standard” which includes its claims from Arunachal Pradesh, the Aksai Chin Region, Taiwan and the South China Sea.

Global Times of the state said in a post on X, formerly Twitter “The 2023 edition of China’s standard map was launched on the website of the standard map service hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources”. The post also said, “This map is based on the way in which China’s borders and other countries around the world are drawn”. Arunachal Pradesh, which China claims as South Tibet, and Aksai Chin occupied by it in the 1962 war was also shown in the map displayed by the Global Times.

“Arunachal Pradesh is and will always be a part of India and it can never be separated”, says India repeatedly to China.

The disputed island of Taiwan and the nine dash line, which are also claimed by China and hold a large part of the South China Sea, were also included in the map. 

Counterclaims have been made in the South China Sea area involving Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan.China also claims Taiwan as a  part of its mainland and its assimilation with the mainland is part of an agreed goal of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
