The Chandrayaan 3 rover is all set for sleep mode,  Preparing to spend the longest and coldest night of the moon

Last Saturday it was told by The Indian Space and Research Organisation (ISRO) that the module of the Vikram lander i.e the Pragyan Rover was turned into ‘sleep mode’. The next sunrise is expected to happen on 22nd of September 2023, and is awaiting for another success as per ISRO.

ISRO stated that the Rover has successfully finished its assignments and now it is put in Sleep mode in a safe way. Payloads such as LIBS and APXS are shut down while the data from these payloads are transferred through the lander to the Earth. At present, the battery is full and on the coming sunrise on September 22, 2023 the solar panel is directed to get the light. The receiver is turned on and the upcoming assignments are expected to be successful. Otherwise, the Rover will be India’s Lunar Ambassador remaining on the moon.

Somanath, the chairman of ISRO said “While both The Pragyan Rover and the Vikram lander are functioning, ISRO is trying to put them to sleep in the coming two days as they have to control the lunar night”. He was sending a congratulatory message when the Aditya L1 sun mission was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.

Only after hours the chief of ISRO Somanath announced that the lunar mission’s rover and lander, ‘Pragyaan’ and ‘Vikram’ accordingly were at function and would be turned into sleep mode to overcome the night of the moon, the space agency made the same announcement. The rover has moved nearly 100 meters per day from the lander. ISRO also posted about the same on platform X formerly Twitter. “And we are going to start the process of making both of them sleep in the coming one or two days because they have to withstand the night,” he said.

Three components of the Chandrayaan 3 mission The Propulsion module, which transferred a lander and rover to 100 kilometers of our moon’s orbit, as well as the Lander module that carried out the delicate landing of the spacecraft and the Robot Module for exploring materials on the inner side of the Moon.
