Bus stop worth 10 lakhs stolen in Bengaluru

In Bengaluru, a peculiar news has come to light that the partially constructed bus shelter is gone from one of the busy roads. The week after it had been installed in Bengaluru, a bus shelter and steel structure valued at about 10 lakh were stolen. The bus shelter, managed by the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation, was located on Cunningham Road. There were chairs, roofs, and poles in the bus shelter, but nothing was spared.

After N Ravi Reddy, an associate vice president of the company responsible for the construction of BMTC bus shelters in Bengaluru filed a complaint on September 30th, a month after the bus shelter was stolen, the police registered a theft case. A case has been initiated pursuant to section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code by the police. The police are currently reviewing CCTV footage gathered from local buildings that have been placed.

This news prompted a number of responses from social media users who were astonished to find out about this peculiar theft. Some of them used their remarks to blame the city’s inadequate security measures. “Soon after its installation at the most prominent location in Bengaluru, Cunningham Road, a stainless steel bus shelter of around 10 lakhs was stolen. I’d say it speaks volumes about police inefficiency,” said a user.

“A bus stop worth ten lakhs has been robbed in the Cunningham Road area of Indian green infotech valley, which is considered to be the most well-planned city in Bengaluru,” said another user.

In March, a three decades old bus station at the HRBR Layout vanished overnight. According to a newspaper report quoting locals of the area, in 1990, Kalyan Nagar bus depot was given over by the Lion’s Club. The place was taken over overnight to make room for a commercial establishment.

Officials from (BMTC) the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation claimed that (BBMP) Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike was responsible for removing the bus shelter. In Bengaluru, this is not an isolated case of bus stops disappearing. The bus stop of Doopanahalli in front of Horizon School vanished overnight in 2015. In 2014, a bus stop in the third stage of BEML Layout, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, was missing for 20 years.
