Telangana: Congress Veteran Dharmapuri Srinivas Bows Out After Heart Attack

Dharmapuri Srinivas, a former Congress president of united Andhra Pradesh and minister, passed away at 3 am today due to a heart attack.

Born on September 27, 1948, in Nizamabad district, Srinivas began his political journey after completing his education at Nizam College. He entered politics with the Congress party and won his first election in 1989, becoming a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Nizamabad Urban constituency. He continued to serve as an MLA in 1999 and 2004.

In 1998, Srinivas was appointed as the President of the united Andhra Pradesh Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), showcasing his leadership skills at the state level. He served as a minister during the Congress party’s rule in united Andhra Pradesh from 2004 to 2014. After the state’s division in 2014, he joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in 2015 and later became a member of the Rajya Sabha.

Srinivas is survived by his two sons. His younger son, Dharmapuri Arvind, is the current MP of Nizamabad, while his elder son, Sanjay, has previously served as the Mayor of Nizamabad.

Telangana Minister for Transport and BC Welfare, Ponnam Prabhakar, expressed his condolences, remembering Srinivas’ contributions as a Minister and PCC Chief. He reflected on their long association within the party and extended sympathies to the family, praying for strength during this difficult time.

Similarly, Telangana Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, Women and Child Welfare, Dansari Anasuya Seethakka, also conveyed deep condolences on Srinivas’s demise, praying for his soul to rest in peace.
