Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has accused the Modi government of corruption and negligence following the collapse of the roof at Delhi Airport Terminal 1. He mentioned that this incident, along with other infrastructure failures like the Ayodhya Ram Mandir roof leakage and the collapse of new bridges in Bihar, reveals the shortcomings of the government’s claims about creating world-class infrastructure.
In a social media post, Kharge criticized the government for its poor handling of infrastructure projects over the past decade. He listed several incidents, such as the roof collapses at Delhi and Jabalpur airports, cracks in the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link road, and the Morbi bridge collapse in Gujarat. He said these issues reflect poorly on the BJP’s governance.
Kharge also pointed out the irony in Prime Minister Modi’s statements during the inauguration of Delhi Airport Terminal 1, where Modi had praised the new infrastructure. The Congress leader expressed condolences to the victims of the Delhi airport tragedy and blamed the government’s corruption and ineptitude.
Union Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu responded by clarifying that the building inaugurated by Modi is separate from the one that collapsed. He announced compensation for the victims and emphasized that the old building, opened in 2009, was the one that suffered damage.
The roof collapse at Terminal 1 resulted in one death and six injuries. The incident, caused by heavy rains, led to significant damage to vehicles and disrupted flight operations. Airlines like SpiceJet and IndiGo temporarily canceled services until the situation improved.
In addition to the Delhi airport incident, the Ayodhya Ram Mandir has also faced issues with its roof leaking during the monsoon. Chief Priest Acharya Satyendra Das expressed surprise and concern over the water leakage near the Ram Lalla idol, highlighting the lack of proper drainage in the newly constructed temple.
These incidents have raised questions about the quality of recent infrastructure projects and the government’s ability to meet construction deadlines, like the one set for the completion of the Ram Temple by July 2025.
