The Calcutta High Court criticizes the Bengal government for the “sorry state of affairs” while addressing vandalism at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital.

The Chief Justice harshly condemned the West Bengal government, labeling the situation as an “absolute failure of state machinery.” He expressed disbelief that despite the police being present at the scene, they were unable to protect their own personnel, questioning how doctors could possibly work without fear under such conditions. He described the situation as a “sorry state of affairs.” Further criticizing the government’s response, he pointed out that while Section 144 CrPC orders are often imposed for much less, the authorities failed to cordon off the area amid the chaos. He also highlighted the improbability of “7,000 people simply walking in” without any preventive measures being taken.
