Israel-Gaza Conflict Escalates: Missile Fired from Yemen Hits Central Israel

As the Israel-Hamas conflict rages on, peace talks have stalled, leading to further unrest. The situation intensified when six hostages were found dead in Gaza, sparking protests across Israel. Demonstrators are pressuring Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to act swiftly and secure the release of remaining hostages.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, around 40 projectiles crossed into Israel from Lebanon, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). While many of these were intercepted, some landed in open areas, causing fires but no reported injuries. In retaliation, Israeli jets and artillery units launched strikes on southern Lebanon overnight.

In another alarming development, a surface-to-surface missile fired from Yemen landed in central Israel. The missile, launched by the Houthi movement in protest of Israel’s military operations in Gaza, caused no injuries but signaled a growing threat from the ‘Axis of Resistance.’

On the humanitarian front, a funeral was held in Turkey for American-Turkish activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, who was killed by the IDF in the West Bank last week. UN officials have also confirmed the death of one of their workers, Sufyan Jaber Abed Jawwad, during an Israeli military operation, marking the first such death in a decade.

In Gaza, the first round of a polio vaccination campaign successfully reached 90% of the region’s children. However, the conflict continues to disrupt access to basic services like water and electricity.

Internationally, U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres condemned Israeli airstrikes that hit a school in Gaza serving as a shelter, killing 18 people. Guterres called for an investigation, highlighting the need for accountability and reiterating his plea for an immediate cease-fire.
