Assam government’s ASTC cab booking app may create though competition for OLA & UBER

A new initiative by the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC).They introduced the first-ever city taxi service through a mobile app called “ASTC City Cab”.

This Monday, Parimal Suklabaidya, the Minister of Transport, Excise, and Fisheries, in Guwahati launched this app which targets to simplify commuting for residents and visitors in Guwahati.

In order to facilitate the convenient transport options for passengers traveling in and out of Guwahati, an ASTC City Cab app has been launched.The state government of Assam has taken the initiative to introduce this novel application based taxi service, marking it as one of its kind in the country.

Minister Parimal Suklabaidya announced the launch on Twitter stating, “Today marks a significant day for ASTC as we launched the first ever city cab service named ‘ASTC CITY CABS’ to facilitate ease of movement for the commuters across Guwahati.”

Inspired under the ingenious advice of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, he also highlighted the commitment of Assam’s Transport Department to make sure that the public transportation for the people of Assam is safe and convenient.

After the trial run for a month, the ASTC City Cab service will start its operations.

Sources indicate that around 50,000 taxi cabs are expected to be employed during this service, which will have a significant positive impact on the employment opportunities in the transport sector.

In the framework of this service, it also offers benefits for drivers, who will only be required to pay a commission of rupees 12.50/- per day for each journey provided through the app.

The service will also ensure that journeys are not canceled by drivers. In order to ensure passenger safety the app has the features of an airport hotline button, an emergency panic button and AI chatbot helpdesk to resolve any queries. By contrast, drivers can get access to this app and become a part of the platform.The customers will have the possibility of downloading an application and using ASTC City Cab after a one month trial period.

The initiative aims at enhancing the general commuting experience of residents and visitors in Guwahati by using technology to offer a convenient and safe taxi service.The commitment of the Assam Government to modernize and improve transport infrastructure is emulated in the introduction of the ASTC City Cab application.

The app will become an ideal choice for commuters who seek convenient, reliable transportation options in the city due to its user-friendly interface and safety features.

The ASTC City Cab app is showing promising signs of future innovation in the state transport sector, as Assam progresses towards a more inclusive and accessible urban transport system.
