Barack Obama

Barack Hussain Obama was an American President. He was 44th President of the United States and he was the first African – American president of the US. He served for his nation from 2009 to 2017 and later Donald Trump succeeded.

Early life and education

    He was born on 4th August 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii. His parents are Barack Obama Sr and Ann Dunham. After the divorce, Obama was raised by her mother and father moved to Kenya. His mother later married a man named Lolo Soetoro( was a student in university of Hawaii. 

He spent most of the time with his grandparents. He completed his graduation from Columbia University and later he went to Harvard Law School where he was nominated as president of Harvard law school. Later he moved to Chicago in 1985, and worked as a community organizer for low-income on Roseland and Altgeld Gardens communities. After completing his law, he met his law professor Laurence Tribe and asked the professor to join the team as research assistant.

When Obama had joined the Chicago law firm, he met his future wife Michelle. They got married on October 3 1992. Several years later they had two daughters named Malia and Sasha. 

Obama became religious in his adult life. After that he started to write. He firstly worte “The Audacity of Hope” which means – was not raised in a religious household. While working with the black churches as the community organizer, he then understood the power of African- American religion. 

Obama also published his autobiography “Dreams from My Father- A story of Race and Inheritance” in the year 1995. He was praised for his work all over his nation and the book was printed in more than 25 languages. The book received a Grammy Award as Best Spoken Word album in 2006.

Entry into Illinois Politics 

              In 1996, he led the seat in the Illinois State Senate as a Democrat. During this he was seen working with both Democratic and Republicans for welfare of poor people. In 2001, Obama was sent to Iraq during  9/11 attacks. He stood up against the resolution authorizing the use of force against Iraq. In the rally Obama said, ” I’m not opposed to all wars . I’m opposed to dumb wars “.

      On 3rd January, 2005, Obama extended his hand towards Senator Richard Lugar of Indiana to destroy the weapons of mass distraction in Russia and Eastern Europe. He also created a website with Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, to track all federal expenses. He even stood up for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. 

 Presidential Election- 2008

        In the year 2007, Obama had announced the candidacy of the 2008 presidential election. He had an opponent, a former first lady and Hillary Rodham Clinton. Many others entered the Democratic Party presidential primaries. 

     On August 23, 2008 he became the vice president of Joe Biden. Obama had given a speech which was viewed by 3million people globally. During the campaign he has set enormous fundraising records( in relation to small donations ). On November 4th Obama won the presidency with a majority of votes and became the first African- American  president . 

     After becoming the president, he signed the first bill of Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act 2009. Few days later he also signed the State Children’s Health Insurance Program(SCHIP) to help millions of uninsured children. In the first 2 years of his presidency he appointed 2 women to serve on the Supreme Court . 

     In 2010, he signed the Health Care and Education Act. This act stopped the federal government giving subsidies to private Banks . 

 Obama had promised to Americans and on December 30, 2009, he signed Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Repeal Act of 2010. This acts says about the prevention of gay and lesbian people to be seen in United States Armed Forces. 

Presidential election – 2nd term 

        This was the second and final term of Barack Obama as president. The inauguration was organized to address the nation where he spoke about “Faith in America’s Future ” and ” Perseverance and Unity” . He also proclaimed that ” while freedom is a gift from God, it must be secured by His people here on earth”. He mostly focused on human rights and civil rights. He promised to promote worldwide and stated that the US must ” Be a source of hope to the poor, the sick, the marginalized and victims of prejudice”. Millions of people watched his inaugural program and had become the role model. 

      He also made many amendments and introduced the policy. But failed in the next term as the post was taken by Donald Trump. 

American’s were happy with Barack Obama’s presidency during the term. He looked forward for nations growth and well being.
