In a remarkable feat, Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport has earned the prestigious title of the world’s most punctual airport for an impressive three consecutive months, as per the ‘On-Time Performance Monthly Report’ published by renowned data analytics firm Cirium. This recognition underscores Kempegowda International Airport’s exceptional operational efficiency and dedication to ensuring a seamless travel experience for passengers. The report unveiled Kempegowda International Airport’s outstanding on-time departure punctuality, with rates of 87.51 percent in July, 89.66 percent in August, and 88.51 percent in September. The assessment criteria were stringent, measuring the percentage of flights that successfully departed within 15 minutes of their scheduled time. Kempegowda International Airport’s consistent ability to exceed these benchmarks positioned it ahead of Salt Lake City International Airport in the USA (87.04 percent) and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad (86.48 percent), solidifying its position as a global leader in punctuality.

Cirium’s evaluation process involved categorizing airports based on factors such as seat capacity, gate departures coverage of 80 percent or higher, and flight volume. Kempegowda International Airport falls under the category of Large Airport (25-40 million passengers) and has consistently demonstrated exceptional operational excellence, setting a high standard for global airports. The report comprehensively tracked 89 percent of flights, totalling 18,913 flights across 88 routes to and from Bengaluru, enhancing the credibility of Kempegowda International Airport’s achievement. This extensive coverage underscores the significant impact of Kempegowda International Airport’s punctuality rates on a vast number of travellers, reinforcing its status as a pivotal hub for both domestic and international flights. In addition to Kempegowda International Airport, another Indian airport made a mark on the global punctuality rankings. Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad secured the third spot, highlighting India’s prominence in ensuring punctual flight departures. The other airports in the top five, alongside Kempegowda International Airport and Hyderabad airport, were Salt Lake City International Airport, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, and El Dorado International Airport.

The report also shed light on Kempegowda International Airport’s on-time arrival performance, standing at an impressive 79.46 percent in September, reflecting the airport’s commitment to punctuality throughout the entire travel experience. However, it also highlighted a concerning trend: the Asia-Pacific region witnessed the highest number of flight cancellations, with a significant 32,515 flights cancelled in September. This underlines the challenges faced by the aviation industry in this region. Kempegowda International Airport’s exceptional performance in maintaining high punctuality rates for three consecutive months is a testament to its operational excellence and dedication to passenger satisfaction. This achievement not only enhances Kempegowda International Airport’s global reputation but also positions India’s aviation industry at the forefront of punctuality and efficiency, setting new standards for airports worldwide.
