‘Nal Jal Yojana’ – a water supply scheme was initiated by the Bihar government to ensure the availability of clean drinking water addressing the high levels of arsenic and iron in the water. This water supply project in Dafarpur Panchayat was implemented to tackle the complaints of irregularities in the operations and it aimed to provide clean drinking water to rural communities.
The Indian and state governments are continuously conducting campaigns about water conservation and slogans like ‘water is life’ were heard commonly. But, water wastage was observed in various places due to leakages in the water supply scheme which resulted in the wastage of hundreds of liters of water in the state. Water is being wasted due to a burst of pipeline in the water supply system.The water leakages from the pipe has been causing huge difficulties to the people and they have also raised concerns about the proper water management system.The lack of regular operation and efficient management of the water supply system has led to the frustration among the people in the village. During the time of water supply, the electricity goes off and results in the inconvenience for the consumers and they don’t get enough water through the water pipelines.
In Vaishali district, negligence was observed in maintaining the Public Health Engineering Department system, resulting in the wastage of thousands of liters of water in Musahari Tola. In the meantime, people in Tola were facing severe scarcity of drinking water. Due to the departmental negligence, the water is being wasted and millions of rupees are spent by the government on schemes to provide clean drinking water to the poor. The problem of potholes caused due to leakages has been persisting in the state for about one and a half months, but no proper attention was given to it till now. The residents threatened to protest against the situation, if immediate actions are not taken by the authorities.
Nearly 60% of reservoirs almost have no water or very little water and 40% of them have water little above the DSL (an indicator serves as a extremely low level and this minimal stored water volume becomes unusable) said the Bihar Water Resources Department (WRD) officials to the reporter. The reservoirs located in the Lakhisarai, Jamui, Nawada, Munger, Aurangabad and Banka districts have reached DSL.
To fulfill the needs of drinking water in Patna, the state government staged dharnas in various districts near river Ganga from Kaimur till the Bark to reduce the water crisis caused due to the failure of ‘Har Ghar Nal Jal’ Yojna. The piped water supply scheme of government was failed, as the water levels reduced in south districts of Bihar. Tractor trolley were used by the government earlier to supply drinking water, but this is not in practice now, said the BJP spokesman and Former MLA Prem Ranjan Patel.
