BJP Expels Karnataka MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal for 6 Years Over Anti-Party Remarks
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a decisive step by expelling Karnataka MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal from the party for a period of six years over alleged anti-party remarks. The expulsion, effective immediately, was announced on Wednesday, March 26, through an official letter issued by the BJP’s Central Disciplinary Committee secretary, Om Pathak. This move comes after Yatnal repeatedly violated party discipline despite multiple warnings and show-cause notices.
The letter addressed to Basanagouda Patil Yatnal clearly stated that the Central Disciplinary Committee had taken serious note of his continued disregard for party guidelines. He was previously served a show-cause notice on February 10, 2025, to which he responded, but the committee found his conduct unsatisfactory. The letter further emphasized that despite his assurances of maintaining discipline in previous instances, he continued to make statements and take actions that went against the party’s principles. As a result, the party decided to expel him for six years and strip him of any official position he may have held within the party.
Basanagouda Patil Yatnal has often been at the center of political controversies in Karnataka. He has made headlines for his outspoken nature and allegations against several political figures. One of the most significant controversies he was involved in was making derogatory remarks against Ranya Rao. Additionally, he accused the Karnataka BJP state president, BY Vijayendra, of engaging in corrupt practices and indulging in “adjustment politics.” These statements reportedly created internal rifts within the party, further straining his relationship with BJP leadership.
The decision to expel Yatnal is seen as a strong message by the BJP, reinforcing the party’s stance on discipline and unity. The party has been keen on maintaining internal stability, especially ahead of upcoming political events and elections. By taking strict action against dissenting voices within its ranks, BJP aims to project an image of cohesiveness and strength.
Political analysts believe that this expulsion could have a significant impact on Karnataka politics. While some see it as a necessary move to uphold party discipline, others argue that it may create unrest among certain factions within BJP. Yatnal’s next political move will be closely watched, as there is speculation about whether he will join another party or contest future elections independently.
