BJP Launches Nationwide Waqf Reforms Awareness Campaign to Educate Muslim Community and Counter Misinformation
In a significant political move ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced the launch of a nationwide initiative titled the Waqf Reforms Awareness Campaign, scheduled to be held from April 20 to May 5, 2025. This extensive campaign is aimed at spreading awareness about the recent amendments to the Waqf law and countering what the BJP alleges to be misinformation propagated by the Congress party and its allies. With this campaign, the BJP aims to strengthen its outreach to the Muslim community by clarifying the actual objectives and benefits of the Waqf reforms, which the party asserts are designed for the welfare of underprivileged Muslims.
To kick off the initiative, a dedicated workshop was organized at the BJP headquarters in Delhi, which saw the active participation of key party leaders and minority representatives from across the country. BJP National President JP Nadda addressed the participants, stressing the importance of Waqf reforms in ensuring the optimal utilization of Waqf properties. He explained that these reforms are geared toward enhancing the quality of life for economically weaker sections within the Muslim community, particularly by boosting access to education, healthcare, and other social welfare programs. According to Nadda, the amendments will pave the way for transparent governance and better management of Waqf assets, which have historically been plagued by inefficiencies and misuse.
JP Nadda also took a strong stance against the opposition, particularly the Congress party, accusing it of indulging in appeasement politics and spreading baseless rumors about the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025. He affirmed that BJP workers across the country will directly engage with Muslim citizens to bust the myths surrounding the bill and convey its real intentions and benefits. The BJP believes that these reforms will empower the community and ensure that Waqf properties truly serve the purpose they were intended for—uplifting the marginalized and disadvantaged.
Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, was also present at the Delhi workshop, where he gave detailed insights into the provisions and implications of the Waqf reforms. Rijiju emphasized that the reforms were formulated after extensive deliberation and are aimed at increasing accountability, transparency, and inclusivity in the functioning of Waqf boards across the country. The workshop saw participation from three to four BJP leaders from each state, including the Minority Morcha Presidents, who have now been tasked with replicating the training sessions in their respective states to train district-level BJP leaders. This cascading training model is expected to ensure that accurate information about the Waqf reforms reaches every corner of the nation.
The campaign is being viewed not only as a grassroots awareness drive but also as a strategic move by the BJP to challenge the narrative of opposition parties and build trust among Muslim voters. By directly reaching out to the community and communicating the long-term benefits of the law, the BJP aims to dispel doubts and bridge gaps caused by political misinformation.
The initiative gains even more significance following the recent development wherein President Droupadi Murmu granted her assent to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, officially making it a law. The BJP has reiterated that these reforms are a crucial step toward social justice and community empowerment, aligning with the broader vision of inclusive development and “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.”
