Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced the approval of 6,589 new job opportunities in the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD). The proposal, backed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), includes roles for 2,949 security guards and 3,640 cleaning workers. CM Kejriwal emphasized the need for dedicated sweepers in MCD schools for cleaning tasks and separate security guards to ensure the safety of the premises.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to education, CM Kejriwal stated that, similar to the Delhi government’s focus, priority is being given to education in the Municipal Corporation. These new employment opportunities are not only aimed at addressing youth unemployment but also contribute to building a better future for the upcoming generation. The AAP, having a majority in the Delhi Municipal Corporation, has been actively working to enhance various aspects of civic life.
In an effort to uplift the standard of living for MCD employees, the Municipal Corporation had earlier decided to increase the minimum wage. Unskilled workers will witness an increase in their monthly minimum wage from Rs 16,792 to Rs 17,234. Similarly, the wages for semi-skilled workers and skilled workers will see a rise from Rs 18,499 to Rs 18,993 and Rs 20,375 to Rs 20,903, respectively. Additionally, dear allowance will be disbursed to all MCD employees starting from April 1.
The Aam Aadmi Party had previously announced dearness allowance for all MCD employees, with varying rates based on their educational qualifications. The minimum wage adjustments will benefit non-matric pass employees, matric pass but not graduated employees, and graduate and above employees, with their monthly allowances set at Rs 18,993, Rs 20,902, and Rs 22,744, respectively. Dearness allowance for these employees will be Rs 494, Rs 546, and Rs 598 per month.
CM Kejriwal affirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring a robust education system and pledged to address any shortcomings in the field. With a focus on preparing the next generation, the move to create new jobs aligns with the larger goal of providing better opportunities and environments for the youth. The announcement signifies a proactive approach by the Delhi Municipal Corporation under the leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, fostering growth and development in the region.
