In a significant development for India’s rail infrastructure, plans for a Sleeper version of the iconic Vande Bharat Express are underway, aiming to offer enhanced comfort and convenience for long-distance travel. Currently, the Vande Bharat Express is recognized as a semi-high-speed train with exclusive seating arrangements, primarily suitable for shorter journeys. However, the upcoming Sleeper Vande Bharat, expected to launch by 2024, is set to revolutionize train travel, presenting an innovative and comfortable option for passengers.
Manufacturing Collaboration:
The Ministry of Railways has taken a crucial step toward realizing the Sleeper Vande Bharat vision by entering into an agreement with Kinet Railway Solutions. This joint venture, involving Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) and Russian companies, underscores the collaborative efforts to bring this project to fruition. The first prototype of the Sleeper Vande Bharat Coach is currently being designed and manufactured by Bharat Earth Mover Limited (BEML) in Bengaluru, in collaboration with the Integrated Coach Factory in Chennai.
Distinctive Features:
The Sleeper Vande Bharat Express is poised to operate at a speed of 160 km per hour, offering a seamless blend of speed and comfort for passengers embarking on long-distance journeys. Comprising 16 coaches, the train will feature 11 AC-3 tier coaches, 4 AC-2 tier coaches, and 1 First Class Air-Conditioned coach, catering to a diverse range of passenger preferences.
