Former Karnataka DGP Om Prakash Allegedly Stabbed to Death by Wife at Bengaluru Home

In a shocking and tragic incident that has sent ripples across Karnataka, former Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) Om Prakash was allegedly stabbed to death by his wife at their residence in Bengaluru’s HSR Layout on Sunday evening. The 68-year-old Om Prakash, a 1981-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, retired in 2017 after a distinguished career in the Karnataka police force. Known for his integrity and contributions to the department, his untimely and violent death has left the state in disbelief.

According to police sources, the incident took place around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Pallavi Om Prakash, the wife of the retired top cop, reportedly made a call to one of her friends stating that her husband had died. Alarmed by the call, the friend immediately alerted the HSR Layout police. A police team, accompanied by the Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO), rushed to the residence and discovered the body of Om Prakash lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds. The scene was gruesome, and there were no signs of forced entry into the house, strongly suggesting that the crime was committed by someone from within the residence.

Authorities have stated that the primary suspect in the case is the officer’s wife, Pallavi Om Prakash, who was present at the scene when police arrived. She has been detained for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation. Early reports also suggest that the couple had a long-standing marital dispute, which could have escalated into the fatal confrontation. However, police are yet to confirm the exact motive behind the attack and are looking into all possible angles.

Om Prakash hailed from the Champaran district of Bihar and had an illustrious career in the police force, culminating in his tenure as the DG&IGP of Karnataka from 2015 until his retirement in 2017. His leadership and service were highly regarded among his peers and juniors in the department. News of his death has prompted several senior officers, including current DG&IGP Alok Mohan and Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B Dayananda, to visit the crime scene for inspection. His body has been sent to St. John’s Hospital for a post-mortem examination, and further details are awaited.

This incident has not only shocked the police community but also raised serious questions about domestic strife and mental health issues among retired officers and their families. The investigation is currently underway, and police officials are expected to release more information as the case progresses.
