G20 Summit- Delhi Metro remains shut & Security tighten

In consideration of the upcoming high-level G20 Summit at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The Delhi Metro has released a commuter advisory stating that certain sensitive metro station’s entry and exit gates will be closed during September 8 to 10.

To assure the powerful security for the G20 Summit which was scheduled to take place in Delhi from September 9 to 10, the Delhi Police metro unit requested the Chief Security Commissioner to temporarily close few metro station gates that lead to the VVIPs’ route, summit venue, or to the designated area, from September 8 to 10. The police said that the passengers will still have access to one or two gates at certain stations, and the regular metro routes will remain operational during this time period.

According to the official order, the police have identified Dhula Kuan, Khan Market, Janpath, Supreme Court, and Bhikaji Cama Place metro stations as sensitive metro locations. The restrictions on traffic will be applicable at Moti Bagh, Bhikaji Cama Place, Munirka, RK Puram, IIT, and Sadar Bazar Cantonment Metro stations. Additionally, the Supreme Court Metro Station, which is located near the event venue, will be entirely closed, the police order said.

The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an extensive advisory regarding the traffic management during the G20 Summit. Traffic restrictions will be implemented from the evening of 7th September and will be in effect until 11th September. It was recommended by the Delhi Metro Police to utilize the Metro from September 7 to September 11 for people who are traveling towards Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has initiated the sale of ‘Tourist Smart Cards’ at dedicated counters in 36 stations starting from Monday anticipating higher passenger numbers during the G20 Summit. These cards were being designed in two categories, offering unlimited rides within the metro network, with options for one-day and three-day validity.

According to the DMRC, The price for one-day card was fixed at ₹200, and the three-day card is being made available for ₹500. These costs include a refundable security deposit of ₹50.
