India Gurgaon- Hindu Mob kills 19 year old masjid Imam and sets the mosque on fire. Several police also injured.

A tragic incident took place in Sector 57 of Gurgaon, Haryana on Tuesday, where a mob attacked the mosque and killed the Naib Imam, deputy to the imam mosque. This unfortunate event took place after the communal violence that exploded in the neighboring Nuh district of northern Haryana. During this incident, three people were present at the mosque and one of them sustained injuries, while the other two remained unharmed. The police have confirmed the identity of the victim as 19-year-old Maulana Saad, who served as the prayer leader at the Anjuman Jama mosque  in 57th Sector of Gurgaon, a city known for its impressive skyscrapers and multinational corporations.

According to PTI, the situation remained tense in Nuh and other areas of Haryana, but no new violence cases were reported since Tuesday morning. Few residents have claimed that the clash in Nuh district would have been instigated by an objectionable video shared on social media by a Bajrang Dal activist from Ballabgarh.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Nitish Agarwal informed the press that suspects have been captured, an FIR has been filed and a thorough investigation has been initiated into the incident. “Nearly 60 individuals were engaged in firing and arson at Anjum on Tuesday, which resulted in the death of one person and injuries to the other two”, he said.

On Monday, ‘the Communal violence occurred between Hindu devotees who were participating in the ‘Vishva Hindu Parishad’ procession and Muslims, the procession was halted in Nuh district near the Khedla Mod area which led the members of the Muslim community to throw stones and set fire on several vehicles’, said the senior police official to Scroll.

The spokesperson of Gurgaon Ekta Manch’s citizen platform, Altaf Ahmad, said that, ‘ the mosque would be jam packed during the Friday prayers and this particular mosque in Gurgaon was the only safe place for congregational namaz during 2021-22 where there was opposition for namaz in open spaces by Hindutva vigilantes.  But now, this mosque has also been targeted and burned down by communal forces’, he said.

In response to the escalating communal tensions and violence in Gurgaon, Palwal, Nuh and Faridabad, the authorities have taken strict measures and orders like prohibition on large gatherings have been imposed in these areas. To prevent the spread of misinformation, the internet facilities have also been suspended in Nuh until Wednesday. The authorities are closely monitoring the developments and working towards de-escalating tensions and maintaining public safety.
