India- Over 53,336 Defense personnel quits jobs & 658 committed suicide between 2018 to 2022.

The Ministry of Home Affairs Nityanand Rai made a statement on Tuesday that, around 53,336 personnel of (CAPF) Central Armed Police Forces had quit their jobs either by taking voluntary retirement or resignation, and nearly 658 personnel ended their lives during the last 5 years. Between 2018 and 2022, 47,000 CAPF personnel choosed voluntary retirement and 6,336 opted to resign from their service.

These CAPF personnel include Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB),Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Assam Rifles (AR) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

The Minister was responding to the query that was raised by Manickam Tagore, the Member of Parliament who had found out the details about CAPF personnel who had quit their jobs in the last 5 years.Along with the 658 CAPF personnel, 230 CRPF personnel had ended their lives in between 2018 and 2022, the Minister said in his written reply.

Nityanand Rai, Union Minister of State for Home said while responding to a written reply for the Congress MP Manickam Tagore, “Totally 12,380 personnel had quit their job from CAPF in the year 2022, similarly in the year 2021, 12,003 personnel; 7,690 personnel in 2020; 10,323 people in 2019; and 10,940 personnel 2018”.

The government has taken several measures to reduce the stress and to improve the working environment among AR and CAPFs personnel. New policies with respect to transfer and leaves for the personnel of CAPFs and AR have been implemented by the government while the choice of posting can be made by the personnel after serving in hard areas to the extent possible,” said MoS Home in his reply.

During the hospitalization periods that resulted from injuries while on duty will be considered as on-duty time. Regular interactions will be conducted between the officers and troops to identify and address the grievances. We ensure proper rest and relief by managing duty hours, as mentioned in the response. Steps have been taken to enhance the living conditions of the troop, this includes offering ample recreational, entertainment, sports, and communication facilities. Crèche facilities are also provided at different establishments to support the female employees, the report stated.

CAPF eAwas’ portal has been introduced to streamline the housing information and family accommodations for the CAPFs and AR personnel. Timely promotions are granted for the eligible personnel based on available vacancies and the financial benefits are also granted to the personnel with 10, 20, and 30-year service marks under the (MACP) Modified Assured Career Progression policy, if in case promotions are not applicable to them due to lack of vacancies, said the MoS in his report.
