India Rejects USCIRF Report, Calls It Biased and Politically Motivated
India has strongly rejected the latest report by the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), calling it “biased and politically motivated.” The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) asserted that instead of targeting India, the USCIRF itself should be designated as an “entity of concern” for its continued attempts to misrepresent the country’s religious landscape. The MEA emphasized that efforts to tarnish India’s image as a diverse and democratic society will not succeed.
The report, which recommended sanctions against India’s external intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), over alleged involvement in overseas incidents, has been met with sharp criticism from Indian officials. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal condemned the report, stating that it follows a recurring pattern of distorting facts, exaggerating isolated incidents, and pushing a specific narrative that does not reflect India’s ground realities. According to India, the USCIRF’s agenda-driven approach seeks to undermine the country’s reputation on the global stage.
India has long maintained that it upholds religious freedom and ensures the protection of all communities. The country prides itself on being one of the most diverse nations, where multiple religions have coexisted for centuries. Officials argue that USCIRF’s reports lack credibility as they rely on selective data and do not account for the complexities of India’s social fabric.
This is not the first time India has dismissed the USCIRF’s assessments. Previous reports have also faced similar rebuttals, with the Indian government questioning the commission’s credibility and motives. The MEA’s strong response highlights India’s firm stance against external interference in its internal matters.
As international scrutiny over religious freedom continues, India remains resolute in defending its democratic values and multicultural identity. The latest rebuttal signals a clear message that biased narratives will not be tolerated.
