Modi Govt. wants independent Palestine. PM Modi under the Russian President’s influence?

India’s first statement on the Palestine issue comes in response to the rocket attacks launched by the Palestinian group Hamas on Israel on October 7.

On Monday, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) again expressed its support for the rights of the Palestinian people to land, self-governance, and a dignified life. The CWC also urged for an immediate cease-fire and emphasized the need to initiate talks on all unresolved matters, particularly those at the core of the current situation. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has addressed the Israel-Hamas conflict twice, criticising Hamas’ actions as a “terrorist attack” against Israel.

PM Modi expressed support for Israel during a conversation with  Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu, on Tuesday. And In a tweet, He conveyed that Netanyahu had reached out to him with regard to the situation in Israel.

On Thursday, at a weekly press briefing, Arindam Bagchi, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, emphasized India’s enduring commitment to the creation of a “sovereign, independent, and viable” Palestinian state.

Bagchi restated that, India’s policy stands firm, it supports direct talks for a sovereign, independent, and viable Palestine alongside a secure Israel. The stance remains unchanged. This statement comes shortly after PM Modi condemned Hamas for a terrific attack on Israel.
