By becoming the first ever Indian athlete to win gold at an internationally respected competition, “the golden boy of Indian athletics” Neeraj Chopra has etched his name in history by winning gold in the men’s javelin throw event at the World athletics championship that took place in Budapest, Hungary and this became a major moment for Indian sports.
On August 28, Neeraj’s historic achievement unfolded in the very first hours as he stepped forward to face the competition from all over the world, and in the second attempt, he recorded a spectacular throw of 88.17 meters and displayed an exceptional ability which gave him an insurmountable advantage throughout the race. His spellbound performance not only earned him a gold medal but it has also made him the pioneer of Indian sports on the global stage.
With a silver medal in hand, the other strong competitor Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, closely followed Neeraj’s success. Nadeem’s 87.82m throw was a laudable effort and he had already made an impact on the Commonwealth Games stage while the Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch secured the third spot on the scoreboard with a throw of 83.66 meters, which proved his capacity for success.
With immense pride Neeraj’s father Satish Kumar expressed his happiness by saying “This is an excellent moment for our country, as we have won a gold medal at the World Championship too, We’ll have a party when Neeraj returns to India”.
As the news about Neeraj’s historic victory began to spread across the country, a chorus of congratulations came from all corners. Anurag Thakur, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, who has described Neeraj’s feat as a turning point in India’s sporting history, was one among those to celebrate. He has expressed his pride in social media in admiration for the athlete’s remarkable accomplishment.
Indian army also joined to congratulate and praise Neeraj’s feat . They have praised him on various social media sites for his achievement, which is a remarkable one. Neeraj’s gold medal not only is a magnificent personal achievement but it has also added contribution to India’s medals haul at the World Athletics Championships. With this win, he has already won two medals at the championships while already having a silver medal.
