In one of the most tragic incidents of the ongoing issue between Israel and Hamas, about 50 bodies were recovered from the rubble following an Israeli airstrike on the Jabalia refugee camp which is located in the northern Gaza Strip. The Gaza interior ministry confirmed that the refugee camp was completely destroyed by the assault.
According to spokesperson Iyad al-Bazum, the district was targeted with six US-made bombs, leading to the latest massacre caused by an Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip. This particular strike was part of a larger aggression where Israel targeted 300 sites during its fourth night of land operations in northern Gaza.
Video footage from the scene illustrated the devastating aftermath, showing the recovery of over 50 bodies from the rubble of the destroyed houses. As per the Gaza’s health ministry’s report, over 50 fatalities can be observed including nearly 160 injured individuals and many others trapped under the debris.
Residents felt the airstrike was very similar to an earthquake which shook the entire refugee camp. Ragheb Aqal, a resident of Jabalia, recounted the destruction he saw and mentioned about the uncertain loss of life, mainly among children, women, and the elderly.
Moreover, the Israeli Defence Forces have stated that they killed Ibrahim Biari who was a Hamas commander accusing him of involvement in planning and execution of Hamas’ attack operation on Israel on October 7.
Humanitarian organizations have firmly criticized Israel’s assault on Jabalia refugee camp. They called the relentless air strikes as a clear message to global leaders to proceed with a ceasefire in Gaza.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has pulled global attention, as reckless Israeli bombardment has left over 2.4 million people in the territory facing severe shortages of necessary resources like food, water, fuel, and medicine. Even communication and the internet has been cut off.
Gaza’s border agency has announced that on Wednesday, dozens of injured Palestinians will be allowed to cross through the Rafah border to receive medical treatment in Egyptian hospitals. Since October 7, over 8,500 Palestinian casualties have been reported due to Israeli attacks in Gaza. Additionally, in Israel, over 1,400 casualties have been reported.
People across the world are protesting against Israel for its offensive actions. Aid groups and the United Nations have issued urgent warnings about the critical situation, highlighting the urgent need for immediate assistance to prevent further loss of life and suffering.
