Israeli Strikes Kill Over 90 in Gaza Within 48 Hours as Humanitarian Crisis Deepens

In the latest escalation of violence in Gaza, Israeli airstrikes have killed more than 90 people over the past 48 hours, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. The ongoing bombardment is part of Israel’s intensified military campaign aimed at pressuring Hamas to release its remaining hostages and disarm. The latest wave of attacks has struck even designated humanitarian zones, raising global alarm over civilian casualties and worsening humanitarian conditions in the besieged Palestinian enclave.

Among the dead are 15 individuals, including women and children, who were reportedly sheltering overnight in what was supposed to be a protected area. Hospital sources confirm that these victims were among the latest casualties of ongoing airstrikes. One of the deadliest attacks occurred in Khan Younis, a southern city in Gaza, where at least 11 people were killed. Several of them were inside a tent in the Mwasi area — a place Israel itself had designated as a humanitarian zone. This area now houses hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians who have been forced to flee their homes due to ongoing conflict.

In another incident in Rafah city, four individuals, including a mother and her daughter, were killed in separate airstrikes. Their bodies were brought to the European Hospital, which continues to operate under dire conditions with limited resources.

Israel has declared its intention to expand its military presence in Gaza by establishing large “security zones” within the strip. Over the past six weeks, Israel has enforced a complete blockade on Gaza, preventing the entry of essential goods such as food, water, fuel, and medicine. This blockade has drastically worsened the humanitarian crisis, with aid agencies warning of skyrocketing malnutrition rates. According to the United Nations, thousands of children are now malnourished, and most people in Gaza are surviving on barely one meal per day.

Amid this growing crisis, Dr. Hanan Balkhy, head of the World Health Organisation’s eastern Mediterranean office, made a public appeal to the new US ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee. She urged him to advocate for lifting the blockade to allow vital humanitarian aid and medical supplies into the war-torn region. “I would wish for him to go in and see the situation firsthand,” Dr. Balkhy stated, emphasizing the urgency of international intervention.

Ambassador Huckabee made his first public appearance on Friday at Jerusalem’s Western Wall, where he inserted a prayer said to be handwritten by former US President Donald Trump. Huckabee reiterated the U.S. commitment to securing the release of the remaining hostages held by Hamas.

The conflict, now ongoing for over six months, began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas-led militants launched a deadly attack on southern Israel, killing approximately 1,200 people—mostly civilians—and abducting 251 others. While many hostages have since been released through ceasefire agreements and other negotiations, the war continues with devastating consequences.

Since the onset of the war, over 51,000 Palestinians have been killed, according to figures from Gaza’s Health Ministry. The majority of these casualties are reportedly women and children. The prolonged conflict has also devastated Gaza’s infrastructure, wiping out much of its food production and reducing entire neighborhoods to rubble. Around 90 percent of the population has been displaced, with hundreds of thousands living in overcrowded tent camps and bombed-out buildings under constant threat of airstrikes.

The ongoing conflict has drawn international condemnation and renewed calls for a ceasefire and humanitarian access. With no end in sight, Gaza’s humanitarian crisis deepens by the day, and the world continues to watch as civilian suffering mounts.
