JEE Main Exam Overview: Key Information on Exam Pattern for 2025

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to facilitate admissions into undergraduate programs like B.E, B.Tech, B.Arch, and B.Planning across top institutes in India. Moreover, JEE Main serves as the preliminary exam for those aspiring to qualify for the JEE Advanced, the gateway to prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

The JEE Main 2025 will consist of two main papers:

  • Paper 1 for B.Tech/B.E. admissions.
  • Paper 2 for B.Arch/B.Plan admissions, further divided into two sub-parts:
    • Paper 2A for B.Arch.
    • Paper 2B for B.Plan.

JEE Main 2025 Exam Pattern Breakdown

Paper 1: B.Tech/B.E. (Engineering Courses)

This paper is held online, with a total duration of 3 hours (4 hours for PwD candidates). The test is split into two sections: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Numerical-based questions.

  • Subjects: Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
  • Question Format:
    • Section A: 20 MCQs per subject (all compulsory).
    • Section B: 10 Numerical-based questions, out of which candidates must answer 5 of their choice.

Key Details:

  • Total Questions: 90

JEE Main Marking Scheme

The marking system for JEE Main is crucial to understand:

  • Paper 1 (B.Tech/B.E.):
Each correct answer awards 4 marks, and 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer. Unanswered questions do not affect the score. A total of 300 marks can be earned across 75 questions.
  • Paper 2A (B.Arch):
    • Mathematics and Aptitude sections follow the same marking system as Paper 1 (4 marks for correct, -1 for incorrect).
    • The Drawing section consists of two questions, each worth 50 marks, contributing a total of 100 marks.
    • The paper is worth a total of 400 marks.
  • Paper 2B (B.Plan):
    • Similar marking to the B.Arch paper for the mathematics and aptitude sections.
    • Planning-based questions are worth 100 marks.
    • The total marks are 400.

Important Topics for JEE Main 2025

To perform well, candidates should focus on the key topics based on previous years’ exams.

  • Mathematics: Vectors, Sequence & Series, Circles, Probability, Complex Numbers, and Calculus.
  • Physics: Current Electricity, Thermodynamics, Optics, and Electromagnetic Induction.
  • Chemistry: Carbonyl Compounds, Redox Reactions, Thermodynamics, Electrochemistry, and Chemical Bonding.

Mock Tests for JEE Main 2025

Mock tests are an essential part of preparation. They help in identifying weak areas and improving time management. Candidates can access official mock tests through the NTA website (nta.ac.in/Quiz) or explore other test series like those offered by ALLEN, a reputed IIT coaching institute.

In summary, understanding the exam pattern, focusing on important topics, and practicing with mock tests can significantly enhance a candidate’s chances of success in the JEE Main 2025.
