Jio Cinema to create tough competition for all OTT platforms, heading towards monopoly?

Reliance Jio is one of the reputed companies which made a major impact in the telecommunication sector. Previously all the telecommunication companies demanded huge money for the internet data, but Jio brought a big revolution by giving free internet (data) to their customers. As the customers got used to the services, Jio began to collect fees from them for all their services. Now, the same strategy is followed by the Jio Cinema, OTT platform as well.

Jio Cinema is now freely accessible to everyone. People who have an internet connection can watch various films, IPL cricket matches and other web series for free of cost in the Jio Cinema. As soon as the users get habituated to the services, Mukesh Ambani will start charging for the services and subscription fees will be applied.

A lot of content is coming up in the Jio Cinema to create a turmoil in the OTT world. Recently, a big event was held by the Jio Studios firm and made an announcement about the 100s of upcoming movies and web series on their OTT platform. Those movies include Shahid Kapoor’s Bloody Daddy and Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki as well.

Jio Studios is now focusing only on Hindi content and shortly it will come up with various movies and reality show contents from many other regional languages. This huge announcement by Jio Studios made all the other big OTT platforms like Amazon Prime, Hotstar and Netflix worry about their existence in the OTT world. It is a great sign that Mukesh Ambani is going to make a big difference on the OTT platform as he did in the telecom industry.

There are around 20-25 million existing subscribers for Disney+ Hotstar and most of the users are expected to change their subscriptions to Reliance Industries JioCinema to watch the most exciting cricket tournament Indian Premier League (IPL) for free of cost. Some of the contents in the JioCinema are streamed on the basis of subscription-video-on-demand (SVOD) and dented according to the needs of the Indian users who are more sensitive about the prices.

The founding Partner of Kurate Digital Consulting and a former head of SonyLIV, Mr.Uday Sodhi, said that the first and foremost priority of the  JioCinema is to make their apps available to as many smartphone screens as possible by providing access to IPL cricket matches for free. After some point, JioCinema will start to adopt a subscription model and this is the same strategy that was used by Disney+ Hotstar in their initial days by streaming IPL cricket matches.
