Kunal Kamra Hits Back at Shiv Sena with New Song After Mumbai Comedy Club Vandalism

Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra has taken a bold stand against the recent vandalism of Mumbai’s Habitat comedy club by Shiv Sena workers. In a new video, Kamra released a song titled “Hum Honge Kangal”, directly taking on those responsible for the attack on the venue where he had mocked Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. This incident has sparked a major political and social controversy, drawing widespread attention.

The vandalism was triggered after Kamra took a sharp dig at Eknath Shinde, calling him a “traitor” in reference to the 2022 split of Shiv Sena, the party founded by Bal Thackeray. This comment did not sit well with certain party workers, who resorted to ransacking the comedy club, throwing chairs, and causing destruction at the venue. The video shared by Kamra captures these shocking visuals, exposing the aggression and chaos caused by the rampaging Sena members.

In his song, Kamra sarcastically tweaks the famous inspirational anthem “Hum Honge Kamyab” into “Hum Honge Kangal Ek Din, Mann Me Hai Andhvishwas, Desh Ka Satyanash”, reflecting on the political climate and the consequences of blind faith in leadership. His satirical lyrics underline his criticism of political suppression and the growing intolerance towards freedom of speech.

Adding another twist to the controversy, Kamra’s video surfaced just hours after he was issued summons by the Mumbai Police. Authorities have called him to appear before the investigating officer at 11 AM. However, through his lawyer, Kamra has requested a week’s time to comply with the summons.

This incident has reignited debates over political intolerance, freedom of speech, and the safety of artists expressing their views in India. While Kamra continues to challenge the system with his fearless satire, the larger question remains—can artists and comedians freely express their opinions without facing violent repercussions?
