Neeraj Chopra recently discussed his experience after Arshad Nadeem’s impressive 92.97m throw at the men’s javelin final during the Paris Olympics 2024. Chopra, who ultimately won silver with his best throw of 89.45m, revealed that despite maintaining a positive mental outlook, he struggled with technical issues related to his lower body mechanics. He noted that his leg-work didn’t synchronize properly with his throw, which affected his performance.
Chopra, a gold medallist at the Tokyo Olympics, had been dealing with a groin injury leading up to the Paris Games. This injury was a factor in his decision to withdraw from the Paris Diamond League to ensure he was in peak condition for the Olympics. Speaking from Switzerland, where he is currently preparing for upcoming Diamond League events, Chopra confirmed that he is not consulting with doctors in Germany as some reports suggested. Instead, he plans to seek medical advice after the season concludes.
He expressed that despite the excitement of the Olympic stage and his belief that he could match Nadeem’s throw, his technical execution fell short due to both physical and mental factors. Chopra also mentioned that his coach had advised him on improving his technique, acknowledging that his excitement and the pressure of the competition contributed to the technical shortcomings.
