Over 7 Crore Pilgrims Take Holy Dip at Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj
The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, the grand spiritual congregation celebrated at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers in Prayagraj, has already witnessed a massive turnout. Official reports reveal that over seven crore pilgrims have bathed at the Sangam between January 11 and 16, seeking blessings and spiritual fulfillment. This marks an auspicious start to the event, which is expected to draw over 45 crore devotees by its conclusion.
The Maha Kumbh began with an overwhelming response, as approximately 45 lakh devotees performed the holy ritual on January 11. The number surged to 65 lakh the following day. On January 13, the first official day of the Maha Kumbh, a record-breaking 1.70 crore pilgrims took the sacred dip, while January 14 saw an extraordinary 3.50 crore devotees immersing themselves in the spiritual atmosphere of the holy Sangam. By the end of the first two days alone, more than 5.20 crore pilgrims had participated in the bathing rituals.
On January 16, over 30 lakh pilgrims performed the ritual bath, reinforcing the vibrant energy and faith of the attendees. This grand assembly reflects the deep-rooted cultural and spiritual traditions of India that continue to resonate with millions globally.
The Maha Kumbh has not only attracted devotees from across India but has also captured the imagination of international visitors. A 21-member delegation from ten countries, including Fiji, Finland, Guyana, Malaysia, Mauritius, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United Arab Emirates, participated in the event. Invited by the Ministry of External Affairs, these international guests experienced the divine atmosphere and took a holy dip at Triveni Sangam, expressing their heartfelt joy and spiritual fulfillment.
Among the international pilgrims, Denesh Persaud from Guyana shared his happiness, calling his participation a “dream come true.” Similarly, Sally El Azab from the UAE expressed her admiration for the event, highlighting its unique spiritual ambiance and cultural significance. The Tent City at Arail, a thoughtfully designed accommodation by the Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation, provided a warm welcome and a comfortable stay for these international visitors.
The Maha Kumbh, organized under the leadership of the Yogi government, has received global attention, highlighting India’s rich heritage and inclusive spiritual values. The event, which began on January 13, will continue until February 26, offering several significant dates for devotees to partake in the sacred rituals. Key bathing dates include January 29 for Mauni Amavasya (Second Shahi Snan), February 3 for Basant Panchami (Third Shahi Snan), February 12 for Maghi Purnima, and February 26 for Maha Shivaratri.
