As the Paris Olympics 2024 enter the final stretch, India remains in the hunt for its fourth Olympic medal. The spotlight is on Neeraj Chopra and the Indian Hockey Team to add to the existing tally of three medals.
Manu Bhaker has been the standout performer for India, securing two bronze medals in shooting. The 22-year-old clinched third place in the individual 10m air pistol event and also partnered with Sarabjot Singh to win bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team event.
Despite high expectations in badminton, Indian shuttlers fell short of the mark, failing to secure any medals. The boxing team, including Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain, also did not replicate their recent successes, resulting in no medals in that category.
However, India is guaranteed at least two silver medals on Tuesday at the Paris Olympics.
The Indian men’s hockey team will compete against Germany in the Olympic semifinal on Tuesday. A win will secure at least a silver medal. In the quarterfinals, the team, led by Harmanpreet Singh, triumphed over Great Britain with a 4-2 shootout victory and now aims to win consecutive Olympic medals.
Meanwhile, Vinesh Phogat is set to face Yusneylys Guzman Lopez of Cuba in the Women’s 50kg Freestyle semifinal. Vinesh has already caused a sensation by defeating reigning Olympic champion Yui Susaki of Japan and followed up with a quarterfinal victory over Oksana Vasylivna Livach of Ukraine.
