PM Modi Accuses Congress of Vote Bank Politics, Highlights Waqf Law Reforms and Push for Social Justice
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing it of spreading what he termed as the “vote bank ka virus” while addressing a public gathering in Hisar, Haryana. He criticized the Congress for opposing the recently passed Waqf (Amendment) Act, claiming that the opposition party has consistently undermined the principles of equality and justice laid down by Dr. BR Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution. According to the Prime Minister, the Congress has historically treated Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) as second-class citizens, denying them access to resources and opportunities that should have been equally available to all.
Modi emphasized that under the Congress-led governments, marginalized communities faced systemic discrimination and found it difficult to access basic services like banking and welfare schemes. “In the time of Congress, the doors of the bank used to not even open for SC, ST, and OBC; loan, welfare—everything was just a dream. But today, the biggest beneficiaries of Jan Dhan accounts are from these very communities,” he asserted. He further claimed that the new governance model under his leadership has prioritized inclusivity, dignity, and empowerment of the poor and backward classes.
The Prime Minister also targeted the mismanagement of Waqf properties under previous regimes, alleging that lakhs of hectares of land under Waqf control were exploited by land mafias instead of serving the interests of needy and marginalized Muslims, especially the Pasmanda community. He stated that the newly amended Waqf law would put an end to such misuse, ensuring that Adivasi land remains untouched by Waqf Boards and that the true beneficiaries—the poor and Pasmanda Muslims—finally receive their due. “The loot of the poor will stop with this amended Waqf law. This is real social justice,” Modi declared, positioning the legislation as a step toward transparency and fairness.
Continuing his attack on Congress, Modi accused the party of attempting to erase Dr. BR Ambedkar’s legacy. He recalled how Ambedkar was humiliated and defeated in elections during his lifetime and said that Congress even tried to obliterate his ideas. “Dr. Ambedkar was the protector of the Constitution, but Congress has become the destroyer of the Constitution,” Modi said, reiterating his party’s commitment to upholding constitutional values and promoting the welfare of every citizen regardless of caste or religion.
Highlighting the government’s efforts toward development, especially in rural India, Modi mentioned that under Congress rule, only 16 out of every 100 rural households had access to piped water, with SCs, STs, and OBCs being the worst affected. He proudly announced that his government has now provided piped water connections to over 12 crore rural households in just six to seven years, raising coverage to 80 percent, and reaffirmed his commitment to achieving 100 percent coverage soon.
The Prime Minister also reaffirmed his support for the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC), calling it a step toward true secularism. He cited Uttarakhand’s recent adoption of a UCC as an example, claiming that while the Constitution encourages equal laws for all citizens, Congress has consistently opposed such measures. “The spirit of the Constitution clearly says that there must be one common civil code for all citizens, which I call a secular civil code,” Modi said, accusing Congress of using the Constitution as a political tool to retain power rather than a framework for justice and equality.
Earlier in the day, Modi flagged off the first direct commercial flight from Hisar airport to Ayodhya, marking a major milestone in regional connectivity. He also laid the foundation stone for a new terminal at the airport and inaugurated several developmental projects aimed at boosting infrastructure and economic growth in Haryana.
