NEW DELHI: On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered his 11th address to the nation from the Red Fort, marking the 78th Independence Day. This speech, his first in his third consecutive term, lasted 98 minutes, making it his longest Independence Day address to date.

Previously, PM Modi’s longest Independence Day speech was in 2016, which lasted 96 minutes. In 2023, he spoke for nearly 90 minutes. His first address during his second term in 2019 was 92 minutes long. Modi’s inaugural Independence Day speech as Prime Minister in 2014 lasted 65 minutes. His shortest speech was delivered in 2017, lasting just under an hour.

During his address, PM Modi paid tribute to the countless heroes who sacrificed their lives for India’s freedom, emphasizing their lifelong struggles and sacrifices. “Today, we pay homage to the heroes who devoted their lives to the freedom of our country and who faced the gallows with ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ on their lips,” he said.

The Prime Minister also expressed deep sympathy for those affected by recent natural disasters across the nation, pledging the nation’s support during these challenging times. “The recent surge in natural disasters has raised concerns for all of us. I want to express my deepest sympathies to those affected and assure them that the nation stands by their side,” he added.

PM Modi also praised the nation’s security forces, acknowledging their efforts in protecting the country and propelling it to new heights. He highlighted the pride that operations like surgical and air strikes bring to the nation. “This nation owes a debt of gratitude to every martyr. We bow down to every brave heart who has dedicated their lives to protecting the nation and taking it to new heights,” he remarked.

He also spoke of the nation’s collective strength, urging unity in facing challenges and envisioning a prosperous future for India by 2047. “If 40 crore individuals could achieve the dream of independence, imagine what 140 crore people united with determination can accomplish. Together, we can overcome any obstacle and build a prosperous India,” PM Modi said.
