Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 Set to Deliver Massive Performance Boost with 3nm Architecture and Enhanced GPU
Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship chipset, reportedly named the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2, is shaping up to be a monumental upgrade over its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Expected to launch later this year, the chipset has already created significant buzz in the tech community due to its rumored cutting-edge architecture and game-changing performance gains. According to the latest leaks, this upcoming mobile processor will be built using TSMC’s advanced N3P 3nm fabrication process, which promises substantial improvements in both power efficiency and raw performance. This new process node is a step above the N3E node used in the current Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, indicating a more refined and powerful chipset for next-gen smartphones.
One of the most exciting upgrades in the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 is its support for the latest LPDDR6 memory, while still maintaining compatibility with LPDDR5X. This dual memory support offers OEMs more flexibility and end-users a better multitasking experience. Reports suggest that the new chipset could deliver up to 30% better performance, thanks to an overhauled CPU and GPU architecture. A key performance booster appears to be the larger GPU cache, with 16MB cache per compute unit and a total of 32MB L2 cache, compared to 24MB in the current 8 Elite. This increased cache capacity is expected to offer noticeable gains in high-performance scenarios such as intensive gaming, multitasking, and graphic rendering.
Additionally, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 is said to feature a new CPU core configuration, moving to second-generation Oryon cores arranged in a 2+6 setup—two prime cores and six performance cores. This shift from the previous core structure is believed to be a crucial factor in delivering smoother and more powerful computational performance. Complementing this new CPU setup is the rumored Adreno 840 GPU, which is tipped to run at an impressive clock speed of 1.35GHz—up from 1.1GHz seen in the Adreno 830 GPU used in its predecessor. Early benchmark results only add fuel to the excitement. According to leaks from March, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 has reportedly scored 4,000 in single-core and 13,000 in multi-core tests on Geekbench, showcasing a major leap over the current Snapdragon 8 Elite, which powers flagship devices like the OnePlus 13 and Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. On AnTuTu, the new chipset is rumored to have reached a staggering 3.8 million total score, which could place it as the most powerful mobile chip Qualcomm has ever created.
If these leaks and benchmarks are accurate, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 is set to redefine flagship smartphone performance, offering next-level speed, efficiency, and responsiveness. However, as with all pre-launch information, things may still change before the official announcement. Qualcomm is expected to unveil the chip at the Snapdragon Summit later this year, where we’ll get a clearer picture of its capabilities and supported features.
