On 6th September 2023, Chandra Kumar Bose, the grand nephew of Netaji, announced his resignation from the primary membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
During The Quint interview in August, Bose had openly discussed his ideological diversities with numerous members of the BJP. He stated that, “He was initially encouraged to join the BJP and to promote Subhas Chandra Bose’s ideology of inclusiveness and secularism. Sincere efforts were made in that direction, but it is very important to understand that implementing those ideologies isn’t the sole responsibility of an individual, collective efforts are required. While significant support has been received from the Prime Minister, he believed that the party should actively be endorsed and advocated for Subhas Chandra Bose’s inclusive ideology.”
In the resignation statement, Mr.Bose expressed that, “he had decided to take this most important step on a date that has great importance to the Bose family, which records the 134th birth anniversary of his grandfather Sarat Chandra Bose, the elder brother, mentor, and comrade-in-arms of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, they were known as the Bose Brothers, who supported for an inclusive and secular ideology for the independence of India”.
He further elaborated saying, “In the year 2016, I joined the BJP, inspired by the leadership of Shri Narendra Modi ji and the extensive development agenda of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The initial discussions revolved around the inclusive ideology of the Bose Brothers, which I believed would be an advancement through the BJP party. It was being agreed that we would establish an Azad Hind Morcha within the BJP’s framework, with the primary objective of spreading the Netaji’s ideology of uniting all the communities as Bharatiyas, regardless of their religion, caste, or creed. In his view, this was really important for maintaining our country’s unity and nurturing an inclusive progress that tops all the communities.”
In a disappointed tone, Bose highlighted that, “Despite the passionate efforts to continue these commendable goals, I have not received any support from the BJP, neither from West Bengal state nor from national level. I had presented a thorough plan summarizing a strategy to engage with the Bengal people, but the proposals were ignored.” “Given these unfortunate circumstances, I find it irrational to remain as a member of the BJP by staying true to the convictions”, he concluded.
