The 80th round of the National Sample Survey (NSS) is set to launch new surveys focusing on health, domestic tourism, and travel.

The upcoming 80th round of the National Sample Survey (NSS) will feature comprehensive surveys on health, domestic tourism expenditure, and household travel, with the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) set to roll them out next year.

The health survey, scheduled to commence in January, will expand on the limited topics covered in the 79th round, offering a more thorough examination of health issues. The domestic tourism expenditure survey and the household travel survey are slated to start in July. The travel survey, requested by the Ministry of Railways, aims to inform coach production and assess demand for various transportation modes, travel preferences, and price sensitivity.

The tourism survey will mark the third in its series, following earlier studies conducted in the 65th and 72nd rounds, and it will provide essential data for the tourism sector, aiding in the estimation of sector parameters and supporting UNWTO statistics.

The ministry’s “Vision 2024” highlights an increase in such surveys to enhance data-driven decision-making. The National Statistical Organisation (NSO) will continue its broad range of sample surveys, which include fields such as industry surveys, labor force surveys, and household consumption expenditure studies.
