The Centre has appointed B Srinivasan as the new Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG).

On Tuesday, the Centre appointed B Srinivasan, a 1992 batch IPS officer from the Bihar cadre, as the new Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG). Srinivasan succeeds Nalin Prabhat, who has been assigned as the Special Director General of Police for Jammu and Kashmir.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved Srinivasan’s appointment, which will last until his retirement on August 31, 2027. The decision to curtail Nalin Prabhat’s tenure as NSG Director General allowed for his inter-cadre deputation from Andhra Pradesh to the Union Territories cadre for three years. Prabhat, also a 1992 batch IPS officer, will take over as the Special DG of Jammu and Kashmir Police following the retirement of RR Swain on September 30.

Prabhat’s career is distinguished by numerous accolades, including three Police Gallantry Medals and the Parakram Padak. At 55, he brings extensive experience in counter-insurgency operations, having led the Greyhounds, a specialized anti-Naxal unit in Andhra Pradesh. His background also includes significant roles in the CRPF, where he served as Inspector General of Operations and Additional Director General in the Kashmir region.

Following Prabhat’s transfer, Anish Dayal Singh, a 1988 batch IPS officer of the Manipur cadre and the current Director General of the CRPF, was given additional charge of the NSG. As per the Ministry of Home Affairs notification issued on August 15, Singh will hold this additional responsibility until Srinivasan formally assumes the role or until further orders.
