The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is contemplating administering a polygraph test to Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. This decision follows the discovery of “discrepancies” in his responses during questioning, according to a CBI official.
The case in question involves the tragic rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor within the hospital’s seminar room earlier this month. The victim, who was on a 36-hour shift, sought refuge in the room to rest. Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer, was apprehended by the Kolkata police after Bluetooth headphones linked to him were found at the crime scene.
Dr. Ghosh, who resigned shortly after the incident, has been under CBI interrogation to determine if the murder was part of a larger conspiracy. The agency is particularly interested in inconsistencies in his account, including his initial reaction to the murder and the delay in delivering the victim’s body to her parents.
The CBI also inquired about Ghosh’s communications following the murder and the authorization of renovations near the crime scene. Recently, a local court authorized a polygraph test for Sanjoy Roy, and Ghosh’s potential test is being considered to resolve the inconsistencies in his statements.
The Calcutta High Court had earlier noted that Dr. Ghosh should have been one of the first individuals questioned. Additionally, the Supreme Court criticized the West Bengal government for delays in the FIR registration and questioned the actions of Ghosh and the hospital administration post-murder, including Ghosh’s attempt to label the murder as a suicide.
