Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem wins Olympic gold, and is rewarded with an Alto, prompting netizens to ask, “Couldn’t they find anything cheaper?”

Pakistani javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem made history at the Paris Olympics by winning gold with a record-breaking throw of 92.97 meters, surpassing India’s Neeraj Chopra, who took silver. This victory marks Pakistan’s first individual gold in athletics and their first Olympic medal since 1992.

In response to his achievement, a Pakistani-American businessman, Ali Sheikhani, announced that he would gift Nadeem a Suzuki Alto, a gesture that has sparked mockery on social media. Many netizens questioned the choice, suggesting that a more prestigious gift was warranted for such a historic win.

Despite the online trolling, Nadeem is set to receive substantial rewards, including over PKR 150 million (approximately INR 4.5 crore), with significant contributions from various Pakistani officials and public figures. Additionally, Nadeem’s father-in-law announced he would gift him a buffalo, a gesture of great value and honor in their village.

Nadeem’s gold has garnered widespread appreciation, and even celebrities like singer Ali Zafar and cricketer Ahmad Shahzad have announced cash rewards for the Olympic champion.
