Amit Shah Lays Foundation For Amul-Linked Sabar Dairy Plant With Five Lakh Litre Capacity In Telangana

A massive boost to the agricultural and dairy infrastructure of southern India has taken shape in Telangana as Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation stone for a major milk processing facility. Set up by Sabar Dairy, a prominent member of the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation that markets products under the iconic Amul brand, the project represents a major four-hundred-crore-rupee investment in modern food processing. Situated in the Tupran mandal of Medak district, the state-of-the-art facility is designed to strengthen local supply chains, provide stable pricing for rural producers, and position Telangana as a premier hub for high-value dairy manufacturing.

The processing plant will feature an initial milk handling capacity of five lakh litres per day, with built-in engineering provisions to scale operations higher in response to rising regional demand. Beyond handling liquid milk, the integrated facility will manufacture a wide array of value-added consumer dairy goods. Daily output plans include two hundred metric tonnes of curd, thirty kilo litres each of buttermilk and traditional lassi, ten metric tonnes of fresh paneer, and fifty kilo litres of ice cream. The complex will also produce three metric tonnes of traditional fresh sweets alongside five metric tonnes each of bakery items and pure ghee every single day, with scope to scale ice cream production up to one lakh litres per day in later phases.

The establishment of the plant is closely aligned with the central government's nationwide initiative known as White Revolution 2.0, rolled out by the Union Cooperation Ministry to expand dairy cooperative networks and boost market access for rural producers. The national program aims to achieve a fifty percent increase in cooperative milk procurement by twenty twenty-nine by setting up seventy-five thousand new dairy cooperative societies across India. In Telangana alone, the initiative targets the creation of one thousand five hundred and twenty-five new primary dairy cooperative societies, enabling village farmers to bypass predatory intermediaries and sell directly to formal processing chains.

Highlighting the economic impact of the project, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy noted that the plant will directly benefit nearly ten thousand local dairy farmers across Medak, Sangareddy, Siddipet, and surrounding districts. By establishing organized milk collection centers, cold storage units, and transparent digital testing mechanisms at the village level, the cooperative model guarantees fair and timely milk payouts to cattle owners. The initiative is also expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities, especially for rural women who play a central role in livestock rearing and dairy management.

The expansion also highlights the substantial financial backing provided to cooperative institutions across the state. Over the past twelve years, the National Cooperative Development Corporation has approved approximately one point one six lakh crore rupees for development and procurement projects in Telangana, including nearly sixty thousand crore rupees dedicated to paddy procurement operations. With over sixty thousand registered cooperative societies functioning across Telangana, central leaders emphasized that strengthening the cooperative framework remains the most reliable strategy to raise rural household incomes and build economic resilience in agricultural communities.

Construction of the modern dairy complex is slated for completion within eighteen months, featuring automated processing lines, cold chain logistics, and green energy power systems. As regional consumer demand for packaged dairy goods, probiotic beverages, and fresh sweets continues to surge across the greater Hyderabad urban belt, the Sabar Dairy plant will ensure a reliable, hygienic supply of branded Amul products while anchoring sustainable livelihood growth for thousands of dairy farming families across Telangana.
