On 19 july 2023, Five suspects were arrested by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) with a huge load of firearms and explosives along with live cartridges, pistols and some other materials which are used for making explosions in Bengaluru. According to the PTI, the suspects were arrested in Kanakanagar of Sultanpalya, an area near the place of worship and it is believed that the accused were planning for some major conspiracy in the capital city.
Syed Suhel, Umar, Janid, Mudasir, and Zahid were the five suspects that have been identified and it is suspected that these people were planning to execute a bomb blast in Bengaluru. These five people were among those 21 persons who were arrested in 2017 in connection with a murder case and were imprisoned in Parappana Agrahara Central Jail, the place where they met the terrorists. 7 country-made pistols, 2 daggers, 2 satellite phones, 42 live bullets and 4 walkie-talkies were recovered by the police from the suspected terrorists.
Basavaraj Bommai, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka said that, “this case has to be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for further investigation as this involves significant conspiracy and the suspects also had the intention to do a bomb blast in Bengaluru”.
B Dayananda, Police Commissioner of Bengaluru said, “Central Counseling Board has successfully tracked down the people who were planning to commit the vandalism acts in Bengaluru city. 5 accused have been arrested and 7 pistols along with many live bullets, a walkie-talkie and few other items were recovered from the suspects. One of the accused absconded and provided these weapons to carry out the disruptive activities in the city”. He further said that all these 5 accused were involved in a 2017 murder case which comes under the RT Nagar police limits of Bengaluru. They would have met a person named Nazir in the prison, an accused from the 2008 serial blasts in Bengaluru, who seemed to have influenced these 5 individuals in the jail. The Central Crime Branch investigator tried to trace the location and other information of the five suspects and these people were believed to be potential terrorists, who were gathered from various regions within the state of Karnataka. The police officials said that the suspects were planning for a blast in the area and this case has been registered officially at the Hebbal police station.
