BJP Rejects Voter Deletion Allegations During Special Intensive Revision As Telangana Chief Defends Election Commission Rules

A fierce political controversy over the integrity of voter registers in Telangana has drawn a sharp response from the Bharatiya Janata Party, which firmly denied all claims of deliberate voter suppression. Political tension in the state surged after rival opposition leaders accused the ruling party at the Centre of carrying out a coordinated plan to erase genuine voters from electoral lists across major urban constituencies. Stepping forward to address the growing public debate, the state leadership of the BJP delivered an unequivocal rejection of the allegations, defending the ongoing Special Intensive Revision drive as a standard, transparent administrative exercise designed solely to clean up official voter registers.

Speaking to reporters in Hyderabad, Telangana BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao defended the procedures followed by the Election Commission of India. He emphasized that the revision of electoral lists is conducted by independent constitutional authorities and field staff, not political party functionaries. The state party chief explained that no registered voter's name can simply be removed from the rolls without following established legal guidelines, stressing that every single cancellation requires direct field-level inspection and home verification by assigned booth officers before any formal order is signed.

Hitting back at the opposition parties, Ramchander Rao strongly criticized both the Indian National Congress and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, widely known as the AIMIM. He accused their leadership of creating unnecessary fear in the public mind and spreading false narratives because they sense weakening voter support on the ground. According to the state party chief, rival political groups have developed a routine habit of targeting electronic voting machines and attacking election officials whenever they anticipate poor polling results. He claimed that the opposition campaign is aimed at delegitimizing regular electoral updates rather than protecting democratic processes.

The defense was issued in direct response to serious allegations raised by AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and senior Congress party leaders. Opposition figures had earlier claimed that grassroots activists linked to the saffron party were weaponizing statutory Form 7 applications to target living minority residents, long-standing families, and grassroots workers in constituencies like Musheerabad and Bahadurpura. Addressing these specific claims, party spokespersons stated that if any political group or individual possesses actual evidence of irregularity, illegal paperwork, or booth-level wrongdoing, they should place their proof before proper judicial authorities rather than making sweeping public speeches without documentary evidence.

Explaining the purpose of the Special Intensive Revision drive, the state BJP leadership stated that the exercise is necessary to fix long-standing errors in urban voting databases. Over the course of several election cycles, official lists often accumulate names of citizens who have passed away, families who have permanently relocated to different states or neighborhoods, and duplicated entries where single voters appear at multiple booths. Party leaders argued that allowing duplicate and deceased electors to remain on the registers damages the purity of the electoral system, maintaining that removing ineligible names through due process is essential for conducting fair democratic polling.

The political dispute highlights how intensely contested voter revision exercises have become across the country. As opposition parties continue to demand criminal investigations, special probe teams, and high-level audits into bulk objection filings, the ruling party maintains that the entire process operates under established statutory safeguards. The confrontation shows that the management of electoral rolls will remain at the very center of political debate, with the party asserting that the election machinery is carrying out its duty to guarantee that only living and verified citizens cast ballots on voting day.
