Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren reveals a new initiative to advance tribal arts and culture.

Ranchi: On Saturday, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced his intention to launch a significant policy in 2025 focused on promoting artists and safeguarding tribal culture. This revelation was made during the final event of the ‘Adivasi Mahotsav-2024,’ which also marked his birthday.

The two-day festival, held at the Bhagwan Birsa Munda Memorial Park-cum-Museum in Jail Chowk, celebrated the diverse art, culture, and traditions of the tribal community. Soren underscored that sports and culture are central to his administration’s goals, highlighting recent efforts such as building stadiums, creating playgrounds at the panchayat level, and organizing local sports events. He also noted the awards and financial support provided to athletes.

In addressing the economic challenges faced by artists committed to cultural preservation, Soren promised that the new policy would enable them to present their work and heritage with respect. While acknowledging the limited tribal representation in various professional fields—such as trade, judiciary, civil services, medicine, and engineering—he pointed to gradual progress and the rise of tribal identities. Soren emphasized the difficulty of maintaining cultural traditions in a materialistic world and stressed the importance of continuing efforts in cultural preservation.

The festival featured performances from tribal artists across several states, including Mizoram, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tripura, and Chhattisgarh. The event’s conclusion was marked by the presence of notable figures such as MLA Kalpana Soren, Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Maji, cabinet minister Hafizul Hasan, MLA Jaimangal Singh, and other senior government officials.
