Bernard Marak, Vice President of the Meghalaya BJP and Tura MDC, has claimed that Tura Lok Sabha MP Saleng Sangma sought the BJP’s support during the recent Lok Sabha elections.
Marak made these remarks ahead of the Gambegre bypolls, during an interview with YouTuber Solly Sangma of Gisikni Kurang. He mentioned that Saleng Sangma should be thankful to the BJP for not fielding a candidate in the election, and also for Marak’s decision not to run as an Independent candidate.
“I don’t understand why Saleng speaks against the BJP when the party supported his victory,” Marak commented.
He further revealed that Sangma personally approached him, requesting him not to contest as an Independent, and suggested that Sangma’s victory margin would have been narrower if the BJP had fielded a candidate. Marak also noted that BJP supporters in Garo Hills were reluctant to support the National People’s Party (NPP), despite instructions from the central leadership.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has officially announced that his wife, Mehtab Chandee, will run in the upcoming Gambegre bypolls, stating that the decision was made based on public demand during a public meeting in Gambegre.
