Priyanka Gandhi Accuses Centre of Blocking Parliamentary Discussions and Undermining Democracy
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has strongly criticized the Central government, accusing it of blocking discussions in Parliament and undermining the democratic process. Speaking to reporters in Wayanad, Kerala, on Saturday, she expressed her concerns over the government’s alleged tactics to prevent meaningful debates on crucial issues.
Priyanka Gandhi asserted that the government is intentionally avoiding discussions by using various strategies, including creating distractions and not allowing opposition leaders to speak. Responding to queries regarding the alleged suppression of opposition voices, she pointed out that in the last few sessions of Parliament, the ruling party has consistently employed measures to disrupt the normal course of proceedings.
She highlighted that the government often diverts attention by provoking issues that they believe will lead to opposition protests or by preventing the Leader of Opposition from addressing the House. According to her, this approach is not only detrimental to parliamentary democracy but also creates an environment where discussions on significant matters are completely sidelined.
Expressing her disappointment, Vadra described the situation as “very sad” and claimed that MPs are witnessing a new trend where the government itself sabotages parliamentary processes. She also countered the frequent allegations that the opposition is responsible for disrupting Parliament, arguing that under the current regime, it is the government that is obstructing debates and democratic engagement.
Earlier in the day, Priyanka Gandhi attended the District-Level Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting at the Collectorate in Kalpetta, Wayanad, where she addressed several key local issues.
