“UPSC CSE 2025 Introduces Mandatory Document Submission with New Application Rules”

The application process for the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2025 has undergone significant changes. The central government has now mandated the submission of key documents at the time of application, a departure from the earlier practice of submitting these documents after qualifying for the preliminary examination. This adjustment comes as a response to the Pooja Khedkar case, where allegations were made regarding misuse of reservation and disability quotas.

The UPSC Civil Services Examination is one of the most prestigious exams in India, conducted annually in three stages: Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, and Interview. The examination serves as a gateway to coveted positions such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS). For 2025, the preliminary exam is scheduled for May 25.

Candidates applying for this examination must now submit specific documents during the application process. These include proof of date of birth, category certificate (such as SC, ST, OBC, EWS, PwBD, or Ex-Servicemen), educational qualifications, and service preferences. Failure to provide these documents within the stipulated time will result in cancellation of the application. This procedural change aims to enhance transparency and accountability in the selection process.

This year, UPSC will fill 979 vacancies, including 38 reserved for benchmark disabilities. Among these, 12 vacancies are allocated for blindness and low vision, 7 for deaf and hard of hearing, 10 for locomotor disability, and 9 for multiple disabilities. The reservation policy ensures representation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Economically Weaker Sections, and PwBD candidates.

The application process for UPSC CSE 2025 is entirely online, with the portal open until February 11, 2025, at 6 PM. Candidates can visit the official website at upsconline.gov.in to complete their registration. To encourage more women to join the civil services, the government has introduced measures to promote gender balance, fostering a more inclusive and equitable workforce.

These changes reflect the government’s commitment to fairness, integrity, and inclusivity in one of the country’s most competitive examinations. With this new system in place, the selection process is expected to be more streamlined and credible, benefiting aspirants and the nation alike.
