Yashasvi Jaiswal raised concerns for the Indian team on Friday after taking a brilliant catch to dismiss Daryl Mitchell on Day 3 of the first Test against New Zealand. Jaiswal, positioned at gully, made no mistake when Mitchell edged a delivery from Mohammed Siraj in the 55th over. However, immediately after completing the catch, Jaiswal was seen wincing in pain and clutching his fingers.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma quickly checked on Jaiswal, who then left the field for medical attention. Axar Patel was brought on as a substitute, while Sarfaraz Khan took Jaiswal’s spot in the slip cordon.
Rishabh Pant’s Injury Adds to Concerns
This marked India’s second injury worry in the match. On Day 1, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant suffered a knee injury while keeping wickets. The injury occurred on the same knee that underwent surgery in 2023 after his car accident. Dhruv Jurel replaced him behind the stumps, and Pant did not take the field on Day 3. The BCCI provided an update, stating that the medical team is closely monitoring Pant’s progress.
