With the Telangana Assembly elections on the horizon, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) is gearing up for an important electoral battle. Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of AIMIM recently made a significant announcement revealing their plan to compete in nine Assembly constituencies. This marks an expansion for AIMIM considering they held seven seats in the previous assembly. Now they’re extending their presence by fielding candidates in two more constituencies, namely Rajendranagar and Jubilee Hills.
One noteworthy element of their strategy is the participation of Owaisi’s younger brother and legislator, Akbaruddin, who is seeking re-election in the Chandrayangutta constituency. Owaisi has also called on voters to support AIMIM candidates in the constituencies where they are competing, while endorsing candidates from the Bahujan Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in the remaining seats. The Congress party has put forward former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin as their candidate for the Jubilee Hills constituency.
Owaisi has raised concerns about the political landscape in Telangana, suggesting there may be a coordinated effort involving the BRS Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and AIMIM to prevent the Congress from emerging victorious in the upcoming election. He believes that the primary battle in the November 30th Assembly election will unfold between the Congress and the ruling BRS, with the BJP and AIMIM appearing to work together to impede the Congress’s chances.
Owaisi has also weighed in on the broader national political scenario, drawing comparisons between the Congress and the BJP and their roles in the demolition of the Babri Masjid. He contends that both major parties adhere to the ideology of Hindutva. On a lighter note, he expressed hopes for cooperation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, playfully referring to them as a “good pair of ‘Ram-Shyam.'”
AIMIM, led by Asaduddin Owaisi, is gearing up for the Telangana Assembly elections and has unveiled a strategy to compete in nine Assembly constituencies. Of particular note is the re-election bid of Owaisi’s brother in one of these constituencies. The political landscape in Telangana is characterized by a contest between the Congress and the ruling BRS, with allegations of collaboration between the BRS, BJP, and AIMIM to hinder the Congress’s prospects. Additionally, Owaisi has provided insights into the ideologies of the Congress and BJP, adding a touch of humor with his analogy about potential cooperation between Modi and Rahul Gandhi.
